after they do the "requesting virus scan" ..is this stemming from the fact that my antivirus software isn't running? I've tried doing an online virus scan at mcafee.com, but while it was downloading the necessary file, I got an error saying "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" yadda yadda yadda. I first noticed the problem yesterday when I tried to open one of my Microsoft Word files. I don't remember when the antivirus software started shutting down on me unfortunately. I downloaded and installed SP2 for XP last night (unfortunately that didn't fix any problems). I also recently installed the software for Comcast high speed internet (along with the modem driver) about two weeks ago. I really don't want

the “Norton AntiVirus Scanner Module has encountered a problem and needs to close” error message. Norton believes that the problem is a conflict between Norton Internet Security, probably the Norton AntiVirus component, and Windows, probably a security or Internet security component. Norton bases its belief on the fact that I was able to run a scan in the safe mode, albeit with after my computer told me that it could not run a scan in the safe mode. I suspect Norton is right because the error report that my computer sends to Microsoft includes a document entitled “C:\DOCUMEN1\MYFIRSTNAME~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\6740_appcompat.txt” and appcompat sounds a lot like application compatibility to me. Has anyone encountered the inability to launch a scan problem? If so, how did you

It has worked well on a daily basis but I wanted to run it in Safe Mode and got the following message: Symantec Integrator has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Is there something I need to configure in either XP or NIS in order to do a scan in Safe Mode? Thanks for your help. LizIntegrator, as all of Symantecs "Control shells, will only run in Hires monitor mode. A safe mode runs in lowres, or low color depth, which normally will not let the applications in NIS/NAV run (particularly the shells).Hmm.. Thanks. That's a really lousy feature in my opinion. Is there a logical reason for it? I ended up running a scan in safe mode at the

of XP (SP1, all critical updates installed), recently started suffering Windows Explorer crashing whenever a drive is right-clicked in Windows Explorer. It's polite. The tired old error message that Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close comes up first. Of course, the screen then blanks except for the wallpaper and everything is finally refreshed. I cannot access the CHKDSK GUI, but I can run CHKDSK from the command prompt, and the drives all pass muster. Likewise Norton Disk Doctor claims it can't run its checks because Windows or another program has control of the disk, but it will schedule a CHKDSK on reboot, and all disks are OK. This apparently has something to do with icons because this Registry Tweak works: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

, I could not remove it. It kept telling me there was an error in installation. So my only solution is probably to go through the process of reloading windows all over again. One thing that is odd about this problem is - I use a different computer at work that doesn't have pc-cillin but when I log onto outlook express at work it does the same thing. If I'm not using pc-cillin at work why would all my emails disappear on that computer? Anyway- I now have an even bigger probelm- after downloading XP 2 SP, when I reboot my machine -it goes through a disk check and then I get a blank screen- only when I stop the check will windows come up. I went to a restore point before I installed SP 2- but it made no difference. Any ideas? Anyway- My computer just seems
