version 5--I realize that I have to download an update from the Web, but I was wondering if the older verions is causing anyone problems? I am also running a Sound Blaster Live 5.1 card with Creative software loaded with updates from Creative Web site. XP has all updates loaded including the CD Burner update from the Windows Update siteI had a lot of trouble with version 5, until I updated to about 5.3 or so. Worse, after upgrading from 98 to XP, I discovered that I should have uninstalled Easy CD Creator before I upgraded. Uninstalling afterwards, then re-installing was a pain. However, more recently Roxio has offerred an uninstaller that supposedly will clear all traces of version 5 or 6. They call it roxiozap.exe. My advice is to uninstall Easy CD, trying the roxiozap rountine
Pavlion. The installation completed, however I did attempt to start while in the Pavilion. I re-installed HDD in the Vectra and nothing (I assume the installation is machine specific so you can’t clone hard drives). So, I attempted installation on the Vectra again, Formatted hard drive and again the installation stopped (froze up) prematurely. The format procedure (full NTFS) occurs normally, file copy is completed, machine reboots and then at install randomly quits. Is the problem software related or hardware related? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated? Daveto start while in the Pavilion. OS, which it recognizes as Windows ME, does not qualify for an upgrade. I have even double checked the supported upgrade paths on Microsoft's website, and it verifies that this path is indeed supported. Unfortunately, I am seem to be at a loss here as to where exactly this fails. This HDD was originally out of a Hewlett Packard computer, with their standard ME installation. The installation disk is Windows XP Home OEM, with Service Pack 1A. So, there are a couple of idiosyncracies which may be causing this from the standard upgrade process. I hope that someone can help to enlighten me as to what needs to be done here Thanks in advance. -ChrisHi, Though WinME is a qualifier for upgrading, an OEM version of WindowsXP usually will only do a clean installation. While installing the upgrade version of XP pro from scratch i got a messege saying driver.cab could not be copied so after trying endlessly 2 get it 2 copy i just skipped the file As i am typing it is installing and i was wondering if not having the driver.cab file could give me trouble in the future or if XP will not even work at allMy reply is at the bottom of your sent message: If you have problems this link here should assist you: http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&lr=&newwindow=1&safe=off&q=extract+driver.cab+site%3Amicrosoft.com It's rather generic but it should give you a good place to start, okay? cannot get the program to load on the non-data-file machine. It's as though the program cannot read the files it needs. Now, I've been having perpetual difficulties with setting permissions to all users for other commonly used files, like our Access database for example. I'll set permissions so that all users can view and/or modify the file, but next time I boot my machine, no one else can view or modify the file. Thus, I'm constantly resetting permissions in XP. Why is that? When I try to open a file on a remote machine before resetting permissions in this way, the message I get indicates that the file can't be found, not that it's protected. I'm guessing that something similar is affecting the data files needed to run this program? Any and all advice

Basically that's it. Is there a utility I can find that will replace underscores with spaces in well over 100 files?Don't do it - Spaces in file names is the worst thing that MS ever permitted. I have one client using Office XP and when they add full punctuation to file names, since MS allows files to be created like that, it causes no end to problems searching files. It also causes problems when you do command line actions and don't put the path/name in quotes Some software, third party, has issues with file names with spaces Just a bad move to use spaces in any file/path name.

When editing and saving Word docs, pop-up says "Save in Word Format?" causing all docs to lose format. Font size decreases and centered/underlined items are lost. All docs end with: Normal Normal Heading 1 Heading 1 Default Paragraph Font (etc). Help!!!Maybe your normal.dot file is corrupt. With Word closed, search for the file normal.dot, delete it. When you open Word again the normal.dot file will be recreated. Any personalized configuration will be lost, but if it fixes the problem, it's worth the few minutes it will take to recreate your any custom configuring. If deleting the normal.dot file doesn't help, run the Word setup and select the repair option. If that doesn't fix the problem, uninstall Word and then reinstall it.

The Notepad shortcut on my desktop now shows up as the generic console icon. Also whenever I try to open a .txt file by double-clicking it in explorer nothing happens.Even if I right click the filename and select to open it with Notepad nothing happens. Same thing if I choose Open With and choose Notepad. I also thought it might repair the association if I ticked "Always use the selected program to open files of this kind", but again no effect. I have a computer at home that has Windows 98. I put together a few projects using Microsoft Picture-It Publishing and saved the information in a disc. I tried to open the disc and access the information on my PC at work that has Windows XP, but with no success. One disc had some photos from my digital camera on it. When I tried to look at what was on it all it showed me was one picture. How do I access everything on my disc.Hi, If the disk was created with packet writing software, then WinXP may have trouble reading it unless a similar programs is installed to provide the proper support. You might also try rebuilding the CD's using ISO9660.
I have a worm on my machine. So far I have been able to locate and destroy the msblast.exe file in my system32 dir. However when I try to remove registry entries for the worm (as advised by numerous posts and websites) regedit closes down on me before I can make any progress. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Do I have a new variant of the virus.don't you have any anti-virus software? since you already have one (virus), better to get one of anti-virus software. (at least you can check by online virus scan service - it is free) AVG offer free virsion, also CA offer one year free too. also just for removal, you can use removal tool from Symantec. http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/tools.list.html these are free.

Can you use file association with a file that doesn't have an extension in it's name, we need to use notepad to open files our mainfame creates. These files are created without extensions, so in turn we have to go through the list an choose notepad to open the file each time, we would like to be able to double click the file and have notepad open. When I double click on a program, any program, in Explore I get the error message: Windows cannot open this file: File: regedit.exe To open this file, Windows needs to know what program created it. etc. I thought the problem was just that Windows didn't recognise .lnk files (all the Quick Launch icons are stuffed) until I tried to "Run" regedit. The funny thing is that I restored the file association for Word docs and when I double click on them in Explorer it now opens Word. Also, I can get access to Explorer from "Start -> My Documents" but if I double click on explorer.exe in the windows directory I get the above error. The OS is Windows XP Pro The machine is a laptop, Compaq Presario 2500 Any help would be apprecaitedWorked a treat!
