everything is set for media player to work in mini mode in the task bar but the little video screen won't come up. does anyone know what could be causing that? it makes the mini player thing worthless if theres no little video window. I also noticed the buttons to control the video playback are grayed out also. If anyone knows the problem and can help please do. I already tried reinstalling it. I think it's a bug in media player 10 that needs to be fixed. -jeffits working now. maybe the system need to be restarted after the reinstallation of media player even though it didn't ask for that. -jeff

When I go to the control panels sound, volume the display says "no audio device".Mute all is not selected. The device (sound card) says MPU-401 compatible MIDI device properties says the device is working properly. Also says under driver properties, for the current driver, the driver is enabled. I've got a mess! I did a clean install of windows XP due to uncorrectable system problems (could not do system restore) Had most everything back to normal, including the sound but then completely lost my cd drive and the dvd drive. I did system restore which got them back but now have lost the sound again. I am afraid to do system restore at this point for fear of losing the drives again. I am at a loss how to fix Thanks in advance for your input TammyHi Tammy, The loss of those drives is due to a registry problem. Should it happen to you again, there is a fix for it you can get here: http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.htm, under section 8 - Problems.Sound problem resolved. when Xp goes into standby mode on my computer, when it wakes up, there is no sound and the internet connection is lost.Hi Neil, It's a driver problem. Both the sound card and the one supporting the internet connection do not properly support the standby function. For the sound card, update it if one is available from the web site of the manufacturer. For your internet connection, as you did not specify what type of connection you had, you need to update the card driver as well (be it a modem or ethernet card or what have you). You may find that no update is available, in this case the only solution may be to not use the standby function. You may also have some luck by reducing the powerdown state in the system bios. If currently set to S3, you may find better results by using S2
I have the creaivelabs live x-gamer sound card. I have windows Xp with AMD 2500+ processor. Well i did the windows updates, well that just messed my sound up. I am having trouble with my sound system. I've always gone back and forth between my headphones and speakers when listening to music, but now, when I take my headphones out, I get no sound playing from my speakers. No music, no start-up/shut-down sounds, nothing.. I've gone through the windows trouble shoot to no avail, so any help would be appreciated. The speakers are the kind that are embedded right on the computer monitor. Thanks in advance!it sounds like the speakers or the amp is/are the problem. plug the headphones directly into the back of the computer where you would normally plug the speakers. if you get sound, the computer itself is working fine. if you don't, well you should get sound keep us posted.
Just ran XP update and rebooted. I now have no sound. - I have checked that the Windows Audio service is running (it is, and is set for Automatic start). - My SoundBlaster PCI is the default audio playback device - Volume is turned up and nothing is muted - My speakers are plugged in and turned on - No audio source appears to work (mp3, system sound, CD, games) Everything was hunky dory until I accepted Mr. Gates' latest update. Any suggestions?I believe the term I'm looking for is "stupid user error". I have a switch in my speaker line that allows me to send the computer's sound output to headphones instead of speakers. My 'missing sound' was caused by the switch being in the wrong position. *shrugs sheepishly*
